Functional capacity assessments

Functional Capacity Assessments provide detailed, evidence based analysis of how disability impacts daily life, safety and long term sustainability.

At Kintsugi OT, assessments are completed for:

• NDIS Access requests.
• NDIS Plan Review and Reassessment.
• Supported Independent Living (SIL).
• Individualised Living Options (ILO).
• Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA).

Reports are structured to meet NDIS decision making requirements while remaining neuro affirming and grounded in lived experience.

If you are unsure which assessment is required, you are welcome to reach out.

What Makes my Assessments Different

Our assessments are medico legal informed and written with clarity, structure and defensibility. Impairment is clearly linked to functional impact and required supports. Recommendations are explicit and justified.

Masking, shutdown, sensory overload and invisible load are recognised as functional limitations. Autistic presentation is not minimised or misinterpreted.

Standardised measures may include WHODAS 2.0, ABAS-3, Lawton IADL, Community Integration Questionnaire and other validated tools. Data supports the report but does not override lived experience. Tools are selected carefully and used appropriately.

Assessments can be completed via telehealth across Australia, often improving accuracy and reducing sensory load. In person assessments are available in Newcastle, NSW and surrounding areas where required.

Who This Is For?

These assessments are appropriate for autistic adults who:

• Require increased supports
• Are applying for or reviewing SIL, ILO or SDA.
• Need funding that reflects real world support needs.
• Have experienced burnout or decline in functioning.
• Require clear documentation of risk and capacity.

The aim is accurate, sustainable representation of capacity, not performance under pressure.
